Congratulations Lauren & Eric!

I was lucky enough to be asked to photograph Lauren & Eric's wedding at the end of August. It was a perfect night- beautiful weather, happy family and friends, and a joyous bride and groom.

Lauren & Eric are truly a couple that just exude love for each other- they laughed together most of the night and loved celebrating with their friends and family.

Thank you to Holly & Joe for such a beautifully created wedding! Your home never looked so good!

It's incredible how quickly time passes by!
Not only has it been ages since I've updated the blog, but...

This past May, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, Eli, who I am madly in love with. Included in this post are some photos from his first few days with us, as well as more recent ones. Keep checking back, as I hope to keep you all in the loop as he grows and learns all about this world.

In December, Micah and I went out to visit his parents in Arizona. While we were there, we decided to take a trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens near Phoenix. We weren't sure what to expect when we heard that there would be a big exhibit of glass mixed into the gardens, but once we got there and experienced it, we were blown away! For those of you who haven't heard of Dale Chihuly and his team, here are some photos of his work. The glass pieces were enormous and positioned in among the flowers and cacti. It was quite a work of art. Most of these are close-ups, as I couldn't help but get enthralled by the details.

Lauren & Yoni's Engagement Session

Lauren and Yoni are getting married this coming June, which I can't wait for! (assuming I'm up and running by that point) These two are such an incredible couple- each one of them is so unique and fun and just a beautiful couple. They were so much fun to shoot- willing to try nearly anything and coming up with some fun stuff of their own.

Lauren and I became friends when we started our teaching careers together in the South Bronx. I've always admired her character- kind, thoughtful, and gutsy. She still teaches in Harlem, and is one of those people you know is changing the world. So, Lauren, thank you for making me a small and special part of your future together. I hope you'll enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Megan & Seth's Wedding

Megan and Seth's wedding was one of the most enjoyable events that I've been to in months! Not only are the bride and groom phenomenal people, but their entire wedding party, the guests, and even the staff were all having a great time. Megan and Seth are an awesome couple- they seem to do nothing but laugh all the time. With Megan's smile, and her infectious laugh, I can see why! I can't thank them enough for inviting me to be a part of such an incredible day in their lives.

My college roommate, and one of my best friends, Deb, had her first child on July 14th. I've been intending to get down there over the past few weeks, but with moving from Boston, starting a new job, and settling in, I didn't get there until yesterday.

Boy was it worth the wait! Thomas is the most adorable, cuddly baby ever! He's got this round little face, big blue eyes, and makes awesome expressions! Here are a few of my favorites from our impromptu portrait session.

Lisa & Mike's Wedding

Lisa and Mike's wedding was an absolute blast to photograph! Their families are both exuberant and kind, and their friends are a riot! From start to finish, this was an awesome wedding.

It was especially fun for me because Lisa and I used to work at the same school. I taught 5th grade, and she teaches 6th. We'd see each other as she was planning the wedding with Mike (also a teacher in our district!) and I'd get to hear about some little details and how they were progressing. I was so excited to see it all come together so beautifully!

I loved Lisa's dress- it was so simple and elegant.

Family Reunion

This past Friday, I shot a few family portraits for Christine and her family. Christine had found my ad on craigslist and booked me to shoot her family who were here visiting from Kenya.
We spent some time in a park in Newton, and got some memorable moments with the family. They aren't able to be together often, so it was important to them to have a few formal shots in addition to some fun ones.

The family has asked that I not post the photos online, but if you're an interested client who would like to see more of my family portrait work, feel free to let me know and I can show you some privately.

Megan & Seth's Engagement

Megan and I used to work together in Belmont. It was an honor for her to choose me to shoot her wedding to Seth this coming November.
They are such a fun and happy couple, that one can't help but smile when with them.

After having a chance to spend some time with just the two of them together, I can tell that their wedding is going to be a blast!

More Year in Review

Last April, we took a trip to Israel so that Micah could meet the family and get a sense of the country from a different perspective. Not only did we see a lot of my family, but we got a chance to do some sightseeing while we were there. These are only a few of my favorites from the trip.

The Year in Review

As most of you know, by day I'm a teacher, by night, a photographer. So, as the school year winds to a close, I've had a chance to look back on what I've accomplished. The next few posts are going to be dedicated to the past year... a reflection of my favorite moments, places, and people.

There are so many cool things that have happened to me over the past year. I've gotten my photography business off the ground- have booked weddings, engagement sessions, portraits, and other events. I've traveled to new places and met so many new people.

We'll start with our belated honeymoon, and a last-minute one to boot!
This past August, Micah and I were supposed to head to St. Lucia for a romantic and relaxing honeymoon. But, as luck would have it, a big ol' hurricane hit the island the day before the trip, so we had to change our plans. Instead, we went to PARIS. All I can say is: INCREDIBLE.
I've never been, so it was an amazing week of sightseeing, delicious food, incredible sights, and, of course, romance.

The Eiffel Tower- We walked as high up as we were allowed. It was incredible! By the end of this day, we could barely feel our legs, but it was worth it!

A small, quiet street in Paris. Right before this picture was shot, we had some of the best falafel I've ever had in this busy, crowded falafel restaurant. Not quite the same as the falafel on Dizingoff Street in Tel Aviv, but close!

Tricia & Nathanael

This week, I met Tricia & Nathaneal in Winthrop, MA, a small harbor town right outside of Boston. It's such a beautiful little community, with beaches and harbors all around it. We found some great locations, and had a ball walking around the parks and checking out the different sights.

They are such a great couple and we hit it off right away, so shooting their engagement session was a blast!

We took a walk around Deer Island, a park that has a great bike path all the way around the very end of the Winthrop Peninsula. Check it out if you ever get a chance. The views are well worth it!

Rocket Rocket

Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Rocket Rocket, an awesome band in the Boston area. Granted, they're even more awesome because my husband is their drummer, but they're pretty great to begin with! This was something of a last minute shoot, with not much prep in terms of location or lighting, so for me, it was a challenge. I loved it!

We started out by just rehearsing the music a bit, I took a few from the floor and then climbed around on the rafters (for someone afraid of heights, this was a great challenge to overcome) and got some cool shots.

Next, we scouted out some fun locations in their rehearsal space. It seems to be an old warehouse or office space that's been converted into studios and apartments. It's got a lot of character, and once the band and I got comfortable, we really got to have some fun.

We've already discussed taking some new photos for the band in another location to try and get some more shots. I'm looking forward to it!

Courtney's Shower

I knew that Courtney's shower would be beautiful, fun, and unique. Her sister, Alane, is a friend of mine that couldn't be any sweeter if she tried- she went all out for her sister's shower... check out the cupcakes and M&M's!

Their family is awesome and it was a pleasure to shoot the shower.

Congratulations and thank you to the whole family. It was a beautiful event.

Dina's Getting Married!

I know she's not so little anymore, but to me she's always my 'little sister.' She's been so far from being the little one for so long- graduating college, med school, being a doctor... So to celebrate her upcoming wedding is yet another in a long line of exciting moments in our lives together.

We had her bachelorette party & shower in the same weekend. The party was just a group of girls getting together for a fun night of food, drink, and a lot of laughs. The shower, the next day, was filled with family & friends talking, eating (of course!) and again, laughing a lot together.

Aidan's Brit Milah (Jewish Circumcision)

My cousin Jeremy and his awesome wife, Marna, had their second baby boy last week. Aidan's Brit Milah (bris to some, circumcision to others), was this past Sunday.

It is the traditional Jewish ceremony that welcomes a baby boy into the Jewish Faith. It is performed by a Mohel, who is trained in both the surgical portion and the religious one. This ceremony is always filled with emotion...family and friends gather and sing, celebrate, and eat with the family.

I couldn't help but sneak up with Marna to see him before he was brought out to the waiting family and friends.

A colleague's wedding

I can't tell you how excited I am to be shooting the wedding of one of my teaching colleagues. As many of you know, in addition to my photography business, I teach 5th grade. While I've shot at many weddings already, I'm excited for the opportunity to be a special part of the wedding of someone that I've known for a while. It makes for a different dynamic, which will hopefully get us some really great shots!

On another note...
I've been going through my files, trying to organize them, and I came across some cool photos that I thought I'd share. These were initially taken for my sister, who was hoping to hang some new art in her apartment. I took a day and walked around a few neighborhoods nearby and this is what I found. I couldn't get over the detail on this house!

Getting things in order

I'm so excited that I finally have my website going! While I've been photographing for a long time, and have worked with many incredible professionals, as well as out on my own, it's been hard to make my business "real" without the website. Now? It definitely feels real!

I can't wait to get the final product out to my former clients, new clients, and of course my family & friends. If you take a look at it, and there's something more you'd like to see, let me know. I may or may not be able to use your advice, but I love hearing from the people who actually use it.

On another note... I was in NYC a few weeks ago and got to take a few fun shots at the Fairway market. For those of you who don't know New York, Fairway is one of the few actual supermarkets that carries fresh produce, meats, fish, etc. and is affordable too! (yes, affordable in NYC does exist!)

In the beginning...

In the beginning, I had no idea that I could get this far. In the beginning, I had no clue that my love and passion for photography would bring me to where I am right now.

Now, however... after the encouragement of my incredible husband, family, and friends, here I am! I've learned from true professionals- watched them work, asked a million questions. I've studied, read, and watched numerous books, videos, and websites. I've practiced and practiced. And while I know that I will forever be learning, it thrills me to know that I get to say "I am a photographer!"

Not to say that my full-time job as a teacher isn't rewarding- it definitely is- just in a different way! In one arena, I help others, I teach, I listen, I consult- I make a difference in my students' lives. As a photographer, I listen, I watch, and I document- I make a very different kind of impact on my clients' lives. I love them both.

So here I go... off on an incredible journey... I hope to see you along the way.
